Writing Update February 2021

Time for my first writing update in the New Year. My best achievement was finishing the first draft of my German Urban Fantasy story “Grauzeit”. I started this novel in November for NaNoWriMo. It is a project that is very close to my heart. Finishing it this week left me quite emotional and it’s not easy for me to leave the characters behind. Of course, I’ll have to edit it after I get feedback from my beta-readers, but that’s different from writing the story. Putting the word “end” under the text felt like saying good-bye. Of course, I can’t wait to hear what my betas have to say. First of all, I’m going to let the manuscript rest for two weeks however and then I’m going to re-read it and edit it roughly.
There is also news about “Der dreizehnte Prinz”. It is currently being re-edited. The layout will be created in February. There is not yet a publishing date but it’s coming closer and I’m getting more and more excited.
I read and rough-edited my gay crime novel “Murder and Afternoon” Tea and sent it out to betas. I’ve already gotten some very helpful feedback and am currently waiting to hear back from my other readers.
In February I’ve also started reading my Fantasy Novel “A Tale of Runes and Ravens” for the first time. I’ll write the second part when I’m done editing the first, but that will probably take a while.
In the meantime, I have started writing the second part of my gay crime series, called “Murder and Pumpkin Spice”. I’m going to start self-publishing it when I’ve written three installments of the series, so readers don’t have to wait too long for the second part.
Also, I’ve sent “Schweigen ist ein dunkler Ort“, the young adult novel that I’ve written a few years ago to a publishing house, and they asked for the whole manuscript. I’m happy about that and hope the novel finds a home there, even though they told me not to get my hopes up. Young adult novels don’t sell well in small publishing houses.
Somehow that gave me the courage to start writing an idea that I’ve had a while ago. It’s also a crime novel in German but with adult protagonists. In this case, the characters were the first thing that came to my mind and I realized I want to write their story. I’ve been thinking about the plot for quite a while now and I’ll probably start writing it next week, even though it may be a little difficult to write two crime novels at the same time. Also, it’s unusual for me not to write a book with fantasy elements. I’ll probably miss that. At least I’ll be editing “Runes and Ravens.”
I’d be very interested to hear what you are currently writing or reading. Please let me know in the comments.
